C4 – Off Track

I know the original video and the remix video has been circulating for a little while now but I’m posting this up now as the track is out and you should go and download it. C4 has linked up with his brother Preditah to create in my opinion the biggest grime single for a long time!

It’s got the grime vibe, skippy flows, but it’s catchy sing along hook, backing vocals and production makes it for me a track that can get play on day time radio. It’s crossover sound and infectious chorus makes it for me the biggest grime tune of 2012 so far! Check out the original and remix videos below!

Also big shout outs to Artful whose 2-step garage mix is enormous! OoRITE!

Scorcher – It’s All Love Ft Talay Riley

Now this track right here got played at The Jump Off and Scorcher was in the crowd bopping along to it as Manny Norte dropped it! This is a massive track and I feel that this kind of sound could maybe push Scorcher to that next level. With the very talented Talay Riley on the hook “It’s All Love” has got that great mix of real organic and melodic music as well as that gritty side that gives it an edge and substance!

DJ Swerve – Comeback Riddim Ft. OGz

DJ Swerve has come with yet another massive production in which P Money, Blacks & Little Dee all tear up this new riddim. Entitled “Comeback Riddim” this hard-hitting dark dubstep/grime driven track is another example that these three MC’s can all go in. Big shout’s to OGz, it’s good to see Little Dee back on grime with Blacks & P Money.

Wiley – Hover Board

Now after what I personally thought was a poor single from Eskiboy last time out with “Boom Blash”, it’s good to see he’s gone back to basics and ripped this track up. Discussing his legacy in music, how natural this grime sound and scene is to him, he bosses the beat in this big track entitled “Hover Board”.

He’s even put it out for free for you so what are you waiting for?

Dru Blu – Don Strapzy Vs Dru Blu

With a lot of name brandishing and calls of a sellout being aimed at South London’s Dru Blu, this track here produced by the talented Reggie Dazzle is a personal reply of the complications he’s face because of the name change as well as adapting his music to a wider audience but still keeping to his roots. With the track entitled “Don Strapzy Vs Dru Blu” need I say any more? Check out the music video below.

Angel – Any Minute Now : Mixtape Review

Angel (Sirach Charles) is a singer- songwriter out of West London, as well as being a very talented singer he is also a very talented producer and multi-instrumentalist. He featured on two tracks on Wretch 32’s debut album ‘Black & White’ last year and is looking to make big waves on the music industry in 2012. His recently released ‘Any Minute Now’ mixtape features covers of Frank Ocean, Prince, Rihanna and Coldplay as well as original tracks. So lets get straight into the track-by-track breakdown of the mixtape.

The intro track is a skit titled ‘Piece Of Everything’ and is just a short narrative where we are told, “play time is over.”

‘Fire’ begins with a short answer machine message with a girl speaking about how she misses Angel. The track features some brilliant production with a great guitar riff and some nice laid-back drums and piano.

‘Mirror’ is a very deep track. Angel sings about how he never used to listen to his mother, then finding out she was diagnosed with Cancer and then finding out that he had got somebody pregnant, all leading to him wanting to “Pull the trigger.”

‘Tokin’ Grade’ is freestyle over the instrumental of Frank Ocean’s Novacane, which was one of the best tracks from his ‘Nostalgia/Ultra’ Mixtape. The track also features an original verse from Angel.

Track four ‘Are You Good’ features singer Mark Asari. The production on this one has got that Michael Jackson ‘Dangerous’ feel to it (I think it may sample the drums) and bringing Mark Asari in for a duet is a stroke of genius with the two singer’s voices effortlessly well together.

‘Handle It’ is a song that would fits right in with Jason Derulo’s back catalogue. The track features a very catchy chorus “When you thought that you could handle it the whole night, I’m putting in work, there’s no time, So, when you get tired, I’ll wake you up in the night,” together with the excellent production, this is a track I feel could do very well in the states.

‘We Know Better’ is lyrically one of the best tracks on the tape with. Angel sings about not being ready to settle down whilst he is still following his dreams and how important music is to him.

The track ‘Parallel Paradise’ is a cover of Coldplay’s massive hit from last year ‘Paradise.’ Angel showcases his brilliant vocal ability whilst putting his own spin on the Coldplay track.

Track nine is a cover of Rihanna’s ‘Man Down.’ The song features original lyrics for the verses and the original chorus; it really shows Angel’s ability to cross genres effortlessly.

The final track on the mixtape is a live acoustic cover of Princes’ ‘Most Beautiful Girl In The World.’ The stripped back acoustic version really shows off Angel’s voice and he really shines on this one.  Anybody that covers a Prince song automatically gets my nod of approval.

UK R&B seems to be in a very good place at the moment with the likes of Loick Essien, L and Angel really coming through now. Backed by their amazing voices, what I think has raised the bar in terms of quality for the singers is the quality production they can now call upon. Too often in the past they were working with sub par production and up against their American counterparts their tracks did not stand up. Angel’s mixtape ‘Any Day Now’ showcases the singers song writing and vocal ability and with his debut single ‘Go In Go Hard’ feat Wretch 32 due in March, I am expecting big things.

Stooshe – Love Me Ft. Travie McCoy

The terrible trio from South East London are really building a name for themselves at the moment with their quirky image and sound. This new single “Love Me” sees the girl group Stooshe looking very flattering alongside US star and front man of Gym Class Hereos, Travie McCoy. I love the real London twang that is apparent when they sing and in their break down rap parts that also complement their exceptional harmonies.

Rival – Just A Dream Ft. Dot Rotten

The next generation of Grime & Lord Of The Mics 3 competitor Rival has linked up with the hook master Dot Rotten. I first heard this track on a Logan Sama show on Kiss100 and instantly feel in love with it. Entitled “Just A Dream” this track plays on the mind frame that reality is one big illusion. If I am honest I would have liked it to be slightly longer, but putting that aside, this tune really goes in! Shouts to Rival & Dot.

Emeli Sandé – Next To Me

After being nominated for a 2012 BRIT Award for British Breakthrough Act, the female’s answer to UK soul and R&B, Emeli Sandé is back for 2012 with this amazing powerful and soulful new single entitled “Next To Me”.

With amazing vocals and songwriting skills, this young lady has come again with another great single for the people and I look forward to hearing Emeli’s new album out in February 2012.
